Keeper won the People's Choice Award and Best Serious Game Award at the MassDiGI Game Challenge 2018.
Keeper is a comfy game aiming to inform players about habitat conservation and the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem. By creating an environment where the player feels safe, they are more receptive to other ideas and emotions present in the game. So the educational content is worked into every element of the game. Each flower for your garden is a real flower found in the Northeastern United States. Every animal and insect as well. By playing the game, players are informed and educated on these parts of our ecosystem and how they relate to one another.
Keeper was originally developed by Micropup Games. It is currently under the care of Rad Magpie.
Student Project through the Emergent Media Center. I was the Project Lead.
Eden was displayed at many events across Vermont. Some highlights include: Bookstock 2017, Burlington ArtHop 2017, Burlington Bookfest 2017.
Eden is a game that came with unique development challenges; it is in VR and it incorporates smell to create the most immersive experience possible. Smells are very hard to define. Humans rely so heavily on other senses that we don't have the language to talk about smells. Scents evoke the same emotional responses as color or audio - if not stronger - yet, there is very little common knowledge about how this works or how to use it. Our approach was to treat each smell like a character, building the narrative around the player's interaction with that smell. A room may appear beautiful and relaxing, but the subtle smell of burning and smoke causes tension. These complicated and mixed emotions drive the experience. I am very proud of the work done by myself and the entire team.
Eden is property of Alice and the Magician. Check out their continuing work in Olfactory VR.
Student Project through the Emergent Media Center. I was responsible for Gameplay Design and Prototype Plushie Creation.
Spacebox has earned a patent for its Body Motion Driven Interface System.
Spacebox was displayed at GDC 2017, Chicago Design Museum and Toronto Kids Digital Festival.
Spacebox seeks to capture and replicate the wonder and excitement of playing make believe as a child. Using a cardboard box as the controller, players immerse themselves in the fantasy of flying through space to bring their "Little Alien Friend" - a real plushie stuffed animal hand sewn by me - home. Its all very Calvin and Hobbs.
